NetIS PDF Protection™ is a NetIS Extension, enabling a flexible toolset for encrypting PDF files and authenticating users accessing these documents via your NetIS online publishing platform, supporting the same DRM Scheme online and offline.
NetIS™ brings an entirely new paradigm to the market, presenting the world's first electronic publishing platform that integrates DRM (Digital Rights Management), WCM (Web Content Management), information retrieval and e-commerce tools into a single, seamless platform for the secure distribution and sale of premium content.
As our vision at C.D.I. Systems was to create a "Practical and beneficial approach to e-publishing" we've included the support of secure PDF files via the NetIS PDF protection™ as an inherent part of NetIS interface and processes, that does not require changing of existing business logic, work processes or technical skills.
NetIS PDF Protection™ Features
-
Automatically handles secure PDF encryption, compatible with Adobe's latest release of Acrobat 9. Generating 100% native PDF files opened in the free Adobe Reader and in Internet Explorer or other Web browsers, the end-user is not required to download and install a third-party viewer to open the secured PDF. The user is only referred once to download a native Adobe plug-in to handle the enhanced security.
-
Defining the encryption keys programmatically and storing them in NetIS server and not inside the documents, leaving no "backdoor" of breaking the files encryption. Key transmission is later routed over SSL, though http can also be used. If offline permission is granted, the client stores keys in a local file encrypted using RC4 with a 128-bit key. Thus, NetIS PDF Protection balances the need for broad compatibility with the diversity of Adobe Reader versions and operating system configurations.
-
Apply NetIS DRM profiles and your business rules to the PDFs. Access control include expiration, concurrent-usage limitations, copying, saving and printing restrictions.
-
Downloaded offline PDFs are protected with SafeView PDF client (which is supported offline on Win/Mac/Solaris/Linux). Partnering with FileOpen Systems - an Adobe Security Partner, SafeView PDF has been proven in the marketplace, as FileOpen Systems has been developing DRM software for PDF since 1997, its plug distributed to millions of desktops since 2002.
-
Integrate seamlessly with your firewall, workflows and NetIS based application.
NetIS PDF Protection is a Real-Time Digital Rights Management tool by C.D.I. Systems that provides the capability to define and assign rights and policies for content and information through the Internet - Online and Offline. These rules and policies include criteria such as price, duration, access frequency, rendering frequency, etc. As an intrinsic part of NetIS, NetIS PDF Protection offers the publisher the ability to extend the content rights and regulations to PDF material, by which a specified and authenticated user is authorized to use that specific document:
-
View - This option, when enabled, allows the user the ability to open the document in Adobe Acrobat Reader, with no other capability unless one of the other options is enabled.
-
Copy - This option, when enabled, allows the user the ability to Select and Copy content from the document. In addition, this option allows the publisher the ability to set the number of allowed copies for each individual user and document.
-
Print - This option, when enabled, allows the user the ability to print the document. In addition, this option allows the publisher the ability to set the number of allowed prints for each individual user and document.
-
Screen Capture - This option, when disabled, limits the user ability to use the Screen capture tool of the machine (Print Screen).
-
Expiration - This option, when enabled, sets a specified date and time for the electronic document/publication, on which date the document can no longer be saved, viewed, and/or printed.
-
Save - This option, when enabled, allows users the ability to select the method in which they want to save the document. NetIS PDF Protection accounts for the fact that not all users are online all the time, therefore it has devised the following three saving options:
-
Online Publication/Online Permissions - user can get the document from the publisher's server in real-time, and the act of opening the document requires a connection to that server in order to obtain the permissions required to open the document.
-
Offline Publication/Online Permissions - user can get the document from an offline source (e.g. mail message, a CD-ROM or disk on key) but the permission to open that document must be obtained in real-time from the publisher's server.
-
Offline Publication/Offline Permissions - user can get the document from an offline source (e.g. CD-ROM) and has been given permission by the publisher, to open that document on the local machine without any communication with the publisher's server. Such permission is typically, but not necessarily, restricted to a certain expiration period.
Combined, all of these permissions allow a variety of users controlled access to electronic documents from anywhere in the world as well as provide publishers the ability to control their access, fulfilling the "Publish once Publish everywhere" paradigm NetIS carries to its customers.
