The prestigious Responsa Project goes online with C.D.I. Systems' NetIS™ technology
April 10 2006, JERUSALEM---Bar Ilan University Research & Development Company - the technology

innovative online publishing platform - announced recently the signing of an agreement to deploy the
company's technology on the Responsa Project - the Global Jewish Database. This collection of
textual resources is the foundation of the Jewish people, its tradition, and religious legacy.
The unparalleled database includes the full text of the Bible and its principal commentaries, the
Babylonian Talmud and the Jerusalem Talmud the Mishneh Torah of Maimonides, Shulchan Aruch with
commentaries, Midrashim, 391 books of responsa, and the Talmudic Encyclopedia, representing a period
of over three thousand years of Jewish literary creativity.
The database is a superb tool for scholars, researchers, academic and religious institutes, rabbis,
judges, lawyers, teachers, and students.
Mr. Gaby Kenan, Bar Ilan R&D Company CEO says: "The Responsa project is widely recognized as
the leading database of its kind. We at the Bar Ilan R&D Company, after a thorough assessment,
identified its commercial potential, and decided to embrace it and extend our range of projects.
We found C.D.I. Systems the natural partner for this venture, recognizing their superb technology
and impressive record in the online publishing business."
The Responsa project's Director says: "We had serious considerations before making the decision to
take the Responsa project online. Investing in an Internet product while our loyal customers have
been using CD did not make it easy. C.D.I. Systems' solution and experience helped us in removing
these fears and make this strategic move."
Mr. Itzhak Levit, CEO: "We are delighted that The Bar Ilan R&D Company decided to put this
leading and highly important database on the Internet. We are honored to have this prestigious
organization join our customer base, and are confident that a successful completion of the project
will have a significant effect on scholars, researchers, institutions, and individuals worldwide."
About the Responsa Project
The Project is one of Bar-Ilan University's most impressive achievements. The Project was initiated
when the computer was in its early stages. Today, after four decades of work invested in the
development of algorithms and digitizing and editing texts, the Project has become an invaluable
treasure, accessible to all, and useful to beginners and experts alike. The Global Jewish Database
