C.D.I. Systems, developers of the Takdin legal repository and the NetIS™ e-publishing infrastructure, launched during the Israeli Bar Association conference held annually in Eilat, a Mobile version of its legal service last Sunday.
This mobile application offers the basic functions of the leading legal service, and allows its users to locate laws, legislations and court rulings. The TakdiMobile application is based on the NetIS Mobile™ e-publishing platform, which was successfully deployed on scores of solutions for the Internet, Intranet, Mobile Internet and DVD/CD-ROMs, including among others, Hoover's Mobile providing iPhone™, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile users with business information and tools that fit into their day-to-day work schedules on the go; the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Healthcare (EDQM), the prestigious Responsa Project (awarded Israel Prize 2007), HRD Press - a US provider of HR and training resources, content and solutions and the Globes daily newspaper archive.

TheMarker IT department provided access to the Takdin Mobile application to an experimenter from its behalf - Attorney Efrat Ben Ami from the office Fisher, Becher, Chen, Wall, Orion & co. that tested it for a few days on a Nokia N95 mobile device and on iPod Touch device. According to Adv Ben Ami, the navigation in the iPod device was incomparably more comfortable thanks to the touch screen and its relatively large dimensions, while the navigation through the Nokia keys was much more encumbered. Another problem arose in the initial running of the Nokia device account, as it was necessary to exit from the application in order to change the language to English to enter the username and password, or when turning back the language to Hebrew when using the application. Similar issue arose when there was need to search for the number of a proceed.
However, these limitations were not relevant at all when the service has been tested on the iPod touch device (using Wi-Fi access) as it includes a virtual keyboard that allows switching from language to language easily. Generally, Adv. Ben Ami found the service very fast and comfortable to use, although she added that some basic features were missing, particularly the ability to search for citations of ruling and legislation in the text, as well as highlighting of searched words in the text - useful features available in the Internet version of the application. According to Ben Ami, "Some lawyers use Takdin only for these functionalities, thus it's a pity that they are not present in the mobile version".

All in all, Ben Ami found the application to have great potential: "If you are sitting in court or during a meeting, the ability to discretely be able to retrieve information would be most helpful. However, as some features are still missing, the execution still needs improvement".
According to the project manager, Adv. Roy Friedman, the company is expected to add more features in the near future, such as the detection of court ruling with approximately 5,000 legal terms, Legal TV news and daily legal Podcasts.
In the coming three months, access to the TakdiMobile will be free to every user. The service's price has not been yet determined, but Takdin clients will enjoy a discount. Annual subscription to Takdin currently stands at 1,962 NIS for a year for the standard version and 2,309 NIS for the Takdin plus version.
C.D.I Systems was founded in late 1992 by attorney Hillel Ashkenazy, the company's acting chairman, and is managed by Itzhak Levit. The company is located in the Advanced Industries Park in Har Hotzvim, Jerusalem and employs about 40 workers.
