“The Future of the Library – the Impact of Digital Data” InfoMedia Show
April 12, 2013 – Tel Aviv, Israel
CDI’s COO, Gedaliah Gurfein at the InfoMedia Show
CDI’s COO Gedaliah Gurfein lectured at this year’s InfoMedia Show held at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv, Israel. The show, which draws publishers and information aggregates from the United States, Europe and Israel, is a display case for the latest in technology and thinking in the new world of digital publishing. The show, which was attended by over three hundred leaders in their fields, spans three days of lectures, beach and five star cuisine on the Mediterranean Sea.
Mr. Gurfein’s paper did more to raise questions than to provide answers. “When people figure out the answer on their own it has a much more profound impact than merely telling them what you think,” Gedaliah said. “These are highly intelligent people I am speaking to. I felt it was my job to bring to their attention points they may not have focused on already. Not everything new is always good and it brings its own challenges. For example, in the past publishers were happy to supply printed books to libraries but are they as happy to provide digital books that are theoretically infinite in number and can cannibalize their own market?”
“CDI provides the technology that can smoothly deal with these kind of issues, and the people in the audience understood that,” Gedaliah added, “but the point was for them to first understand the issues themselves.”
CDI is already a major factor in the growing Israeli ePublishing market. Israel, known globally as a leader in technology innovation, is converting to the world of digital content. CDI’s client base in Israel alone includes the government sector, legal system, universities, prestigious think tanks and traditional publishing houses.
